Claydon is a small village just north of the county town of Ipswich. Beautifully situated in a slightly elevated position over looking the Gipping Valley with the River Gipping gently meandering through it.
Ideal for walking and cycleing with surrounding quaint villages such as Barham, Bramford, Great Blakenham and the hamlet of Akenham.
The village offers two public houses, The Greyhound and The Crown, a hair salon, village store and bakers. At the heart of the village you will find the delightful church of St Peter, which is one of the few pre-Norman churches in Suffolk. The interior is attractive with a very fine wooden fan vaulted ceiling.
A visit to Ipswich will not only give you great shopping and dining but also has a charming new waterside development where you will find good restaurants. Christchurch Mansion also makes for an interesting day out, this baeutifully preserved mansion represents 500 years of history displaying rooms from the past and a stunning collection of Constable paintings, the largest outside London. Closeby is Ipswich Museum where you can discover life in Roman Suffolk, the Anglo-Saxon origins of Ipswich and much more.
We recommend The Suffolk Food Hall where local farmers sell their produce. This really showcases quality local food and has a free-range butchery, fishmongers, deli counter, the freshest possible fruit and vegetables and a fantastic selection of interesting and unusual pastas, sauses, cakes and biscuits. On the first floor there is a super restaurant/bistro, The Samford, with amazing panoramic views down the River Orwell. WOODBRIDGE & THE RIVER DEBEN – distance from Claydon approx. 12 miles
This cosmopolitan market town is just a short drive from Aldeburgh heading south on the A12. The town offers many individual boutiques, restaurants and shops. Being situated on the River Deben you will find an interesting marina and boatyard alongside the famous Tide Mill. There are many historic buildings in the town, all centrally located.

Lavenham is probably one of Suffolks’ finest Medieval villages with The Guildhall at its centre. You will be able to reflect on the history associated with this amazing place, once the hub of the wool trade in the Eastern Counties. Lavenham is also home to one of the finest churches in East Anglia with tea shops and restaurants not to be missed.

Looking across the river from Woodbridge one can see the lower slopes of Sutton Hoo, one of Britain's most important archaeological sites. It is the burial ground of the Anglo-Saxon pagan kings of East Anglia. The 250 acre site of unspoilt heath lands, you can view the burial mounds and visit the exhibition centre.
